Dutch Competition

Ajax started poorly in the First Division West II and in the first four round already played three draws. When Ajax lost in round 6 and was beaten by leader Stormvogels with 5-0 in round 8 it was clear maintaining the division championship would be very hard. Ajax remained to be a contender, but since Stormvogels dropped little points Ajax didn't come close and finished second with 24 points, 5 less than new division champion Stormvogels. Subsequently Stormvogels was unable to play a significant role in the champions competition and finished 3rd. Go Ahead became the new domestic champion and Feyenoord missed the title for the second year in a row with only one point.

Beker

There was no Dutch Cup competition during this season.

Lineup

Because Dolf van Kol was no longer allowed to play for Ajax after he got a job as a trainer, a new left back was needed, and it took a while before this position was filled satisfactory. Only for the second half of the season the starting lineup stayed more or less the same: Jan Bonneveld (goalkeeper), Jan van Diepenbeek and Roel Gras (defense), Piet van Deyck, Wim Anderiesen Sr. and Piet Strijbosch (midfield and stopper spil), Wim Volkers, Henk Blomvliet, Piet van Reenen, Jan Schubert, and Henk Mulders (attack). Wim Volkers was captain. Jan de Boer (4) later in the season came into action few matches. Ajax started the season with Daan van Os (3) as leftback and later Piet van Deyck, while Gerard Doon (9) took his position on midfield. Again Jurriaans (10) often played in attack if one of the others was unable to play. The following players also played official matches: Bob ten Have (2), Henk Twelker (2), Erwin van Wijngaarden (2), Rein Happel (1), Oudendijk (1) and Theo Schetters (1)

Coach

Jack Reynolds was the trainer.

General Meeting

End of July Ajax held its Annual General Meeting, divided over two evenings. The brothers Schoevaart and Wim de Bois indicated they were unavaileble to continue their positions as president and commissioners, and during the formation of the new board there were quite some changed. The former 1st secretary Koolhaas became president, the 2nd treasurer G. de Jongh became 1ste treasurer (the function of 2nd treasurer was left open), and Jan de Boer and Daan Roodenburgh took over from Wim de Bois and Jan Schoevaart as commissioners. Theo Brokmann received an honory membership. Also it was announced that there was finally some progress in the talks with the city officials of Amsterdam regarding a new pitch and that acquiring the new pitch could be realized within one year. Jack Reynolds was hired as trainer again.

Wim Volkers

Wim Volkers withdrew from the first team at the beginning of the season, with as reason that after 10 years it became too much to spend every Sunday playing soccer. He did indicate he would be available in case Ajax was unable to find a suitable replacement. Quite soon Volkers returned in the starting lineup.

Piet Strijbosch

Piet Strijbosch moved to Groningen at the end of the season and because of that move, would play for Be Quick in the next season.

Tour through Central Europe

After the competition ended, Ajax made a trip in mid July to Belgrade and Bucharest to play some friendly matches. Jan de Boer got seriously ill at the start of this trip and was brought back to Netherlands later by plane.
