Dutch Competition

In the First Division West I it was clear from the start that Ajax would become division champion again. Ajax only dropped significant points just before and after the competition was won. Afterwards Ajax started strongly with the champions competition and after Ajax had beaten Feyenoord in Rotterdam a home win against Feyenoord would be sufficient to become domestic champion again. However Feyenoord was able to beat Ajax in Amsterdam and because Feyenoord had also hardly dropped points Ajax was only one point ahead with both still two games to go. Both won the remaining two games, causing Ajax to just stay ahead of Feyenoord and remaining the domestic champion.

Beker

Ajax was rightaway eliminated in the first Dutch Cup match, by Tubantia.

Lineup

Again there were little changes compared to the previous season: Jan Bonneveld (goalkeeper), Jan van Diepenbeek and Dolf van Kol (defense), Henk Anderiesen, Wim Anderiesen Sr. and Piet van Deyck (midfield and stopper spil), Bob ten Have, Wim Volkers, Piet van Reenen, Piet Strijbosch, and Henk Mulders (attack). Wim Volkers was captain. Jan de Boer (5) again withdrew as goalkeeper but later in the season came into action again. Henk Anderiesen started on right midfield, Piet Strijbosch on left midfield position. During the season Piet Strijbosch (often in stead of Jan Schubert (13) regularly took the position of left central attack, while Piet van Deyck took his position on left midfield. Later in the season Piet van Deyck moved to the right midfield instead of Henk Anderiesen, Piet Strijbosch went back to the left midfield position and Jan Schubert took his place in the attack. Jurriaans (17) often played in attack if one of the others was unable to play. The following players also played official matches: Henk Twelker (6), Theo Schetters (2), Piet Vunderink (2), Daan van Os (1), Joop van de Puttelaar (1), and Ben Vogel (1).

Coach

Jack Reynolds was the trainer.

General Meeting

For the squad committee Delsen replaced Tump, so that for this season this committe consisted of Brockmann, Couton and Delsen. Also from the annual report of Ajax it was indicated that over the season 1930-31 the average number of spectators was 8000, and that the record was 11700 during Ajax - ZFC.

Jan de Boer

It almost became a tradition, also at the beginning of this season Jan de Boer indicated he would no longer play for Ajax as a goalkeeper. Wim Volkers indicated he wanted to quit, but came back from his decision shortly thereafter. In the final stage of the division competition Jan de Boer also returned.

Pitch Exceeding Capacity

It happened frequently that the homegames of Ajax attracted more spectators than the stands could hold. Halfway the competition the Dutch Soccer Association told Ajax to make sure to restrict the spectators and to make sure players and officials could reach the changing rooms more easily.

Ajax - Stormvogels

The match Ajax - Stormvogels went out of control. Ajax already led with 2-0 in the first half and in the second half Stormvogels was playing more and more aggresively. The referee didn't handle this very well, and Ajax also started to play more aggresively. The Dutch Soccer Association took action. At first Stormvogels were suspended for one week, which in practice only meant one of their matches was postponed. Later an investigation was started which resulted in a suspension of two players from Stormvogels and Diepenbeek from Ajax. Ajax protested against this suspension and after having been suspended one official match the suspension is terminated. Shortly thereafter the final punishments were announced. For Diepenbeek the suspension stayed limited to what he already had suffered, furthermore for Ajax Van Reenen, Strijbosch and Wim Anderiesen Sr. received a reprimand. Voor Stormvogels Groeneveld got a suspension for one year, Van Tol a suspension until the end of next season, and Boekelaar and Prins a conditional suspension of three matches. Later the conditional suspension of Boekelaar was changed into a reprimand.

Dolf van Kol

Ajax and Dolf van Kol parted ways at the end of the season. Not because Van Kol made the switch to another club, or was too old, but because he became a trainer of another soccer club, and because of that was placed in the professional category by the Dutch Soccer Association and was no longer allowed to play official soccer matches.
