Dutch Competition

Ajax started very convincingly at the First Division West I competition. In the 10th match Ajax beat the closest competitor DHC with 9-2, making Ajax, who had played only one draw, take a lead of 7 points. Afterwards Ajax dropped more points, but still became division champion with 30 points, 9 ahead of Xerxes and Blauw-Wit. In the champions competition Ajax lost only one match (in Rotterdam against Feyenoord), winning the rest, which made them the new domestic champion, 4 points ahead of Feyenoord and PSV.

Beker

The Dutch Cup was different from the previous seasons, it only started in March and the First Division Clubs had to participate in round 1 already, but Ajax did not participate.

Lineup

Ajax played a large part of the season with the same basis: Gerrit Keizer (goalkeeper), Jan van Diepenbeek and Dick Been (defense), Piet van Deyck, Wim Anderiesen Sr. and Jan Schubert (midfield and stopper spil), Jan Stam, Henk Blomvliet, Piet van Reenen, Jan Gerritsen, and Erwin van Wijngaarden (attack). Wim Anderiesen Sr. was captain. Jan Schubert also played some matches in the attack, but ended again on midfield. Ko Loois (10) took his position on midfield and also replaced Piet van Deyck few matches. Rinus Bijl (5) played himself in the basis during the champions competition. The following players also played official matches: Jan Distelbrink (3), Johnny Roeg (3), Joop Steunenberg (3), Gerrit Fischer (2), Piet Weppner (2), Tjeerd Aukema (1), Louis Fraenkel (1), Gerrit Gischler (1) and George Koning (1).

Coach

Jack Reynolds was the trainer.

Biased Linesmen

It was common practice that the clubs arranged the linesmen for match by themselves, and often these were people from their own club. For the match Ajax - Blauw-Wit one of the linesmen is former Ajax player Frans Couton and there was an incident reported that Couton first raised his flag when a ball passed the line, but when the referee did not notice and subsequently a goal for Ajax occurred, he later denied having seen the ball cross the line when the referee asked. Of course it is impossible now to find out what really happened, but with linesmen that are obviously connected to one of the playing clubs, it is easy to imagine that it was hard to stay impartial all the time. For the champions competition it was explicitly mentioned for few matches that they had two impartial linesmen.
