Ajax will battle it out with Vitesse on Thursday at 20:45 in the ArenA for a
place with the final 8 teams in the Dutch Cup competition.
Ajax and Vitesse already met 8 seasons for the Dutch Cup. That is a lot, but no record.
Feyenoord (13),
Roda JC (12),
PSV (11),
FC Twente (9) and
AZ (9) met Ajax in more seasons for the Dutch Cup. The first three even played against Ajax for the Dutch Cup a total of 15 times,
because some of the seasons contained double confrontations.
The first Dutch Cup confrontations between Ajax and Vitesse go back a very long time. In season 1907-08
Vitesse was able to beat Ajax in the second round, and the next season Ajax beat Vitesse, again in the second round.
More recently Ajax was too strong for Vitesse in the quarter final,
but in the same season Vitesse beat Ajax twice for the regular competiton.
Ajax won 5 of the 7 earlier Dutch Cup meetings. Ajax scored 16 times and got 4 goals against. One game went into extra time, the other matches
were decided during the regular time.
