Two Ajax Talents with a Great Future

01/02/2018

Ajax is known for producing great talents that eventually develop into world-class players. At the moment Matthijs de Ligt and Donny van de Beek are amongst the greatest talents in the Ajax shirt. The famous red-white shirt with the three stars and adidas stripes is for many children a dream to wear playing football. Van de Beek and de Ligt are two rough diamonds that already enjoy the interest of major clubs in Europe. They have moved on from the famous youth academy of AFC Ajax at the Toekomst sports park. De Ligt won the prize Talent van de Toekomst in the year 2015-2016 and Donny van de Beek won this prize a year earlier in the 2014-2015 season. They are two talents that carry the Ajax identity with bravado. The Amsterdam bluff is present in their game. Both are already one of the crowd favorites in the Ajax football shirt by giving everything every match and entertaining the public with their great talent.

Matthijs de Ligt is a perfect example of a modern central defender, it is a top defender who meets all facets. He is 1.88m, strong, makes perfectly timed slidings, is almost two-legged, makes good interceptions, is very strong in football, with an excellent step forward and has a huge dose of football insight. He started at amateur club FC Abcoude. At the age of nine he switched to the youth academy of Ajax. Here it went fast and in 2016 he made his debut for the first team against Willem II in the Ajax home shirt . By also scoring his debut, his name came in an illustrious row between Frank Rijkaard, Patrick Kluivert and Marco van Basten. In the year 2016-2017 he played 17 games in the U23 and the UEFA Europe League against Manchester United. This was unfortunately lost but it was a great experience for him. This year, de Ligt is 15 matches and he is a fixture in the adidas Ajax shirt.
Van de Beek started his football career at amateur club Veensche boys. Here he was quickly scouted by Ajax. It is a smart player that scores easily, has a good dribble, strikes with nice passes, has sophisticated passes in house and is in possession of a lot of football gochme. In the 2014-2015 season he played 6 games at Jong Ajax. The following year there were 13 for the promises and 10 games for the first team. In the season 2016-2017 he broke through definitively and he played 16 matches at young Ajax but 32 matches at the big Ajax. This year, just like Matthijs de Ligt, he is a regular player in the Ajax shirt. They are two very good footballers from whom we will experience a lot of fun in the years to come, both at Ajax and - with an eye on the future - the Dutch national team.
