News

Dutch Competition

Ajax had a very weak season in the First Division West I, but it was still able to compete for the title, in theory, for a long time, and ended third. Another way of looking at this season is that Ajax only ended 3 points above the number 10 of the competition.

Beker

It seems Ajax did not participate in the Dutch Cup competition. It is unclear why.

Lineup

The following players were used a lot: Gerrit Keizer (goalkeeper), Jan Potharst and Henk van der Linden (defense), Joop Stoffelen, Jany van der Veen and Ad Waldeck (midfield and stopper spil), Gerrit Fischer, Rinus Michels, Gerard Bruins., Ge van Dijk, and Guus Dräger (attack). Gerrit Keizer started as captain, but Van der Veen took over halfway the competition. Later Keizer took over again, and probably Van der Veen took over again when Keizer was arrested. Gerard Bruins (13) often played in attack and Cor van der Hart (12) often played on midfield. The following players also played official matches: Chris Ackerman (5), Henk Blomvliet (5), Piet Leemhuis (1), Bep Leentvaar (1), Erwin van Wijngaarden (1).

Coach

Jack Reynolds made place for Robert Smith, who became the new trainer.

Gerrit Keizer

Gerrit Keizer was caught while smuggling Bitish pounds in the beginning of 1947, during one of his many flights between England and the Netherlands. His goalkeeping carreer ended abruptly as a consequence.
