Players who left Ajax for Feyenoord

09/01/2014

In the early years of the Eredivisie Feyenoord was the rich club and Eddy Pieters Graafland and Henk Groot left Ajax for the money when Feyenoord came. With transfer amounts of roughy 100.000 euro per player Ajax was also satisfied. Ajax developed quickly and the salary gap disappeared, Henk Groot even returned to Ajax 2 years after he had left.
Still, throughout the years players left from Ajax to Feyenoord, if they didn't get a new contract or lost their place in the starting lineup, like Theo van Duivenbode, Johan Cruijff and Angelos Charisteas.
The other direction didn't happen often, unless like with Henk Groot and later Arnold Scholten a player returned to Ajax. Jan Everse is the only player that came directly from Feyenoord to Ajax that played a significant amount of matches.
Besides direct transfers it also happened that players returned to the other club after having played abroad. This way former Feyenoord player Wim Jansen played at Ajax at a late stage of his career and former Ajacied players Simon Tahamata and Rob Witschge came to Feyenoord.
And now there is Kenneth Vermeer who joins the players who left Ajax for Feyenoord.
