European competition played from 1961-62 until 2007-08. Until 1995 this tournament was not part of the UEFA, from 1995 onwards this became a qualification tournament for the UEFA Cup, in the season 2008-09 this tournament was replaced by the qualification phase for the Europa League. In the first editions there was a group stage followed by a knockout stage, but this knockout stage soon disappeared due to lack of time. For a long time this was a popular tournament with strong teams to play international matches during the summer months.
