Jan Smit is Ajax&339; first choice goalkeeper from season 1916-17 until 1919-20. When he is not available, he is normally replaced by Cor Andriesse. He was preceeded by Gerard Ziegler and later replaced by Jan de Boer. Often Fons Pelser and Frans Couton formed the defensive line before him and especially in the championseason 1918-19 he was difficult to beat.
