Dutch Competition

Ajax started very week in the First Division West I competition by already losing twice and having one draw in the first 5 matches. Ajax recovered, but in the 8th round there was already a crucial match. Feyenoord, who hadn't lost yet, came to visit and if they would be able to beat Ajax, they would be out of reach. Ajax however won with a large margin and kept on winning (only played one more draw in the remainder of the competition) and when one round from the last Ajax was able to beat Feyenoord in Rotterdam as well, they finally went in the lead and one round later became the division champion. In the champions competition Ajax did not perform well anymore. The lengthy previous season and the lack of a summer break became a problem, Ajax was not only faced with various injured played, but the team just didn't perform well anymore. Ajax lost twice from both the number 1 (PSV) and 2 (Go AHead), while it was still able to beat the numbers 4 (Velocitas 1897) and 5 (DWS) twice.

Beker

Ajax played for the Dutch Cup in the 3rd round against DHC and in the 4th round against Frisia. Ajax used a team of mostly Ajax 2 players against Frisia, but most of them already had significant Ajax 1 experience. However this turned out not to be sufficient, not withstanding a mostly attacking play, the match was lost with 2-0.

Lineup

The returning Strijbosch turned out to be a solution for the defensive problem, wile during the seasons some changes were made in the attack as well. Later in the season the following starting lineup was used: Gerrit Keizer (goalkeeper), Jan van Diepenbeek and Piet Strijbosch (defense), Piet van Deyck, Wim Anderiesen Sr. and Jan Schubert (midfield and stopper spil), Bob ten Have, Wim Volkers, Piet van Reenen, Johnny Roeg, and Henk Mulders (attack). Wim Volkers was captain. Henk Blomvliet (13) was used in defense, midfield, and attack. Gerrit Fischer played at the start and end of the season as right winger instead of Ten Have. Erwin van Wijngaarden was used a number of times as alternative on the left wing. The following players also played official matches: Ko Loois (5), Gerrrit Gischler (3), Roel Gras (2), Hille van Keulen (2), Joop van de Puttelaar (2), Gerard Doon (1), George Koning (1), Piet Oudendijk (1), Jaap Philips (1) , Schol (1), en Piet Weppner (1).

Coach

Jack Reynolds was the trainer.

De Meer

The date December 9 was already scheduled for a long time for the initiation match of the new stadium. Originally it was planned that the competition match against Feyenoord would be played on that date in the new stadium, but the match was played earlier and a friendly match against Stade Francais was played instead.

England Trip

Ajax went on a short trip to England to watch the match England - italy and play a match against an amateur team. Ajax made a good impression, both with respect to quality and sportmanship. The English were not impressed with the harsh and unfriendly style that the Italians had just displayed.

Amsterdam Team

9 of the 11 Ajax first squad players were invited to play a match between Amsterdam and Rotterdam on the fist of January. Ajax just started using the new stadium De Meer and is unhappy that the Amsterdam soccer association chooses to play in the Olympic Stadium instead of De Meer, since ajax could use the revues. The players of Ajax reacted by withdrawing from this match. Not everyone agreed with the decision of the Ajax players, but the Ajax players defended themselves by pointing out that as member of Ajax they also has a responsibility for their club, and therefor could choose to play a match for Ajax instead of a match for the Amsterdam soccer association. The board added that in their opinion the Amsterdam soccer association should favor their members, the clubs, and not so easily give preference to the Olympic Stadium. Besides with respect to the distribution of the entrance fees Ajax offered more favorable conditions than the Olympic Stadium, but only asked for a minimum, which was negotiable. The Ajax board was also bothered that the Amsterdam soccer association was able to find Ajax (and Blauw-Wit) when it was in financial trouble earlier, but now did not have any consideration for Ajax' position.

Erwin van Wijngaarden and Piet Oudendijk

Early 1935 there is a rumor that Erwin van Wijngaarden and Piet Oudendijk have requested to become member of DWS.

Pinkstertoernooi Brussel

When Ajax won the Pinkstertoernooi in Brussel a strange thing occurred. The cups that had been displayed as the prices for the first and second place were handed out to the number 2 (FC Sochaux) and the number 3 (Lierse SK), while Ajax' players were given a memorial medal, which they refused. Later the Belgium soccer association gets involved and Sochaux akes sure the cup gets into Ajax&39; possession.
