Dutch Competition

Ajax had a good season in the First Division West II, but was not constant enough to be a serious title contender. To illustrate: Ajax won with 11-1 at home from the number 9 UVV, but lost 2-3 at home to the number 10. Ajax became third at six points from division champion HBS. HBS went on to win the championscompetition.

Beker

After the Dutch Cup was not played for three seasons, this season it was on the program again, and the first division west teams could participate because there was now more space in the schedule because there were smaller groups for the regular competition. Ajax reached the 4th round (Last 16) via EDO, VIOS and Friesland, in which it was beaten by CVV.

Lineup

Because of fitting in new players and injuries there were quite some changes in lineup during the season. The following players made regular appearances: Jan van Heeswijk (goalkeeper), Fons Pelser and Dolf van Kol (defense), Joop Martens, Henk Hordijk, and André de Kruijff (middenveld and stopper spil), Eddy Hamel, Wim Volkers, Frans Rutte, Theo Brokmann Sr., and Jan de Natris (attack). It is not known who was the captain during this season. Joop Pelser retired and Henk Hordijk played on the spil position at the start of the season, but later Dolf van Kol filled that spot. Van Kol started in attack, but after Frans Couton was injured and Coen Delsen was unable to replace him in a good manner, Van Kol played in the defense. Later when Couton is back Van Kol plays on the spil position. Couton keeps having problems with his knee and when he is not available, Van Kol takes over his position. Jan de Boer indicates after few matches that he no longer was to be a goalkeeper as he feels he is not protected well enough after a recent change in regulations. Jan van Heeswijk is the goalkeeper for the remainder of the season. Furthermore the following players played official matches: Coen Delsen (11), Kick Geudeker (9), Wout Iseger (9), Joop Rijnders (7), Jan Hassink (4), Bob ten Have (4), Wim Addicks (3), Wim de Bois (3), Hein Delsen (3), Gerard Deen (2), Herman Geestman (2), Jan Becker (1), Rinus Brink (1), Jouke Kuipers (1) and Ko van der Vlis (1)

Coach

Close to the end of the season it became clear that Reynolds would no longer stay on as Ajax trainer.

General Meeting

During the general meeting the board was composed as follows: president W.F. Egeman, 2nd president Maarten Smit, 1st secretary J.J. Grootmeijer, 2nd secretary M.J. Koolhaas, 1st treasurer J. Oudheusden, 2nd treasurer J. Schoevaart. Committee members J. Pelser, F. Couton, and S. Tump. Because of the financial situation the contribution was increased from 8 to 10 guilders, and it was decided not to build the intended club home. It was also decided to introduce the concept of “leden van verdiensten” (members with special merit to the club) in the regulations.

Jan de Boer

On October 31 an article in the newspapers informed us that Jan de Boer was no longer interested to be goalkeeper of the first team and would continue as fieldplayer in one of the lower teams. Jan de Boer was injured again recently before his decision, and his motivation was that due to a recent change in the rules he felt no longer safe as a goalkeeper. It lasted until early 1926 before he decide to be the goalkeeper for Ajax 1 again.

25 Year Anniversary

In honor of the 25 year anniversary Ajax organized a tournament during the Easter weekend. Besides that the first team and old players of Ajax play matches against Blauw-Wit on March 22, which was followed by a costumed match. On March 25 there was a small party at Bellevue. On March 28 a reception at the American Hotel, followed by cabaret evening in Bellevue.

Lineups

There are somethings unclear about the lineups. There is especially limited information about who is playing in midfield. When Henk Hordijk got an injury Rijnders replaced him, but in the remainder of the games that season there is no mentioning about who is playing spill, also no mention about Rijnders or Hordijk. De Kruijff also became injured, but it was unknown who replaced him or when he got back. Also the position of leftback was not always clear. Probably it was mostly Dolf van Kol who played there when Couton was injured and Coen Delsen was not performing well, but one game both Couton and Kol are mentioned as players. We have assumed that the lineup that was published before the friendly match against Blauw-Wit (with Couton leftback, vd Kol as Spil) is the lineup that was used during the second half of the season, in case all players were available. It is likely Hordijk and possibly Hassink or Rijnders played several matches instead of Couton or De Kruijff.

No Trip

This season Ajax organized two English professional clubs, West Ham United and Derby County, to come to the Netherlands, instead of undertaking a trip of their own. Ajax played against both clubs, and the two clubs also faced eachother on the Ajax ground. Ajax played against these opponents with several players from other clubs, which was quite common those days and which Ajax also faced regulary on their trips. Ajax did go to Limburg for a weekend with a large part of the selection where it played against the just promoted RFC Roermond and MVV.
